At Bennington, advising is central to your education and is a consistent conversation that shapes your entire academic journey. This starts in your first year through your engagement in your First Year Forum (FYF) course.
Starting in orientation week, FYF is the basis of your academic support in your first year. Through workshops with student leaders, faculty, staff, and a weekly meeting time, you will gain all the skills needed to be successful at Bennington both in your Plan, FWT, and campus life.
Following your first year, you’ll work closely with a faculty advisor from one of your areas of interest to design, refine, and enact your Plan.
🗣️ How advising works:
- Mentorship in your academic pursuits
- One-on-one meetings with your faculty advisor through the year
- Structured Plan Committee meetings with faculty from across disciplines
Your advisors help you:
🎯 Choose courses that align with your goals
🌍 Plan for Field Work Term opportunities
📚 Build a Plan that’s focused, flexible, and academically rigorous
Advising at Bennington isn’t about checking boxes; it's about shaping a meaningful education with mentors who care about where you’re going.
